VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Police Department has responded to a viral video of a traffic stop by releasing a 27-minute dash cam video of the stop, and the department’s chief said he’s “disappointed” those outraged by the video do not know the whole story.

Recently, a two and a half minute viral video of an early morning June 2015 traffic stop has been circulating online social media. VPD opened an internal affairs investigation of the video after learning about the video on March 13.

VPD Chief Brian Childress said the officer in the video does a “bad job” of explaining what he was trying to do. Childress also reaffirmed the passengers right to film the arrest but said they were “in the wrong” when they got out of the car.

Childress said the driver also raised the officer’s suspicions by pulling over on the left-hand side of the road before taking off again, something seen in the dash cam video that is not shown in the viral video.

No arrests were made during the stop.
