A man said to be in the top rankings of the drug dealers in Dougherty County is back behind bars for the third time. 35 year old Leon Cox was out of jail and on probation having had two prior felony drug convictions. Agents with the Albany-Dougherty County Drug Task Force apprehended Cox who was in possession of and estimated $18,000 worth of cocaine and over $2,000 in cash. His vehicle, money and vehicle were confiscated. Cox could now face the three strikes law if convicted.


 

The Georgia Department of Transportation announced plans for repairs that will soon get underway in Lowndes County. The target of the repairs is the Interstate 75 Old Clyattville Road overpass that was damaged in 2013. A tractor-trailer crashed and caught fire under the west end of bridge. Construction zone signs will soon appear on I-75 south near Exit 13. traffic on Old Clyattville Road will be impacted.


 

CBS News reports that Nestle USA is voluntarily recalling a limited number of DiGiorno, Lean Cuisine and Stouffer’s products because of the possibility they might contain small pieces of glass. No injuries have been reported so far. The voluntary recall includes limited numbers of DiGiorno pizzas, Lean Cuisine pizzas, paninis and raviolis, and Stouffer’s lasagnas and souffles.


 

The opposition to the construction of the proposed Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline continues in spite of the Georgia senate resolution that would allow for easements impacting some of the state’s waterways. Members of the Flint River Watchers organization continue to fight against the pipeline citing the dangers that come with its installation including a rupture in the pipeline system.


 

It’s time to register kids for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs offered by the city schools system.Sign up tim is from 12 noon until 6 p.m. The needed documentation accompanying the registrations includes a child’s certified/official birth certificate, a copy of the child’s Social Security card or signed waiver, shot records on GA Certificate of Immunization — Form 3231, the child’s Certificate of Eye, Ear, Dental and Nutrition Examination — Form 3300, and proof of residence within the school district, and proof of parental residency via a bill listing their names and addresses. The preschool program is open to children turning 4 years old prior to Sept. 1 who live in the Valdosta City Schools district. Enrollment packages can be filled out during registration. A lottery will be held April 15 to determine whether a child is awarded a slot or placed on a waiting list. Parents will be notified via mail of their child’s status.
