VALDOSTA – Police arrested a man who allegedly entered a hotel room Wednesday armed with a knife and demanded money

At approximately 5:53 a.m., the Valdosta Police Department responded to the Del-Mar hotel at 1510 North Ashley St. in reference to a reported armed robbery, said VPD Capt. Kari Williams.

“The investigation revealed that the offender entered the victim’s hotel room armed with a knife demanding money,” Williams said. “the offender then left the area with an undisclosed amount of money.”

VPD investigators were reportedly able to arrest the offender thanks to the cooperation of the victim and witnesses, Williams said.

Walter Hallman, 52, was charged with armed robbery, home invasion and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, reports stated.

Hallman was later arrested in Brooks County by the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office. He has since been transported to the Lowndes County Jail.

Investigators said the case appears to be an isolated, drug related incident.

“The effort of the witnesses in cooperating with the investigation is greatly appreciated and continues to illustrate the need for community involvement during police investigations,” said VPD Lt. Adam Bembry. “The Valdosta Police Department would like to thank the assistance of the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office for taking the subject into custody.”
