VALDOSTA – Investigators with the Georgia State Patrol suspect drugs were a contributing factor in traffic accident that killed an Albany woman Friday evening.
At approximately 6:42 p.m., GSP Trooper Hawk Parrish responded to Georgia Highway 376 at Whitewater Road in south Lowndes County, according to GSP Cpl. Chris Kelch.
Cierra Megan Hernandez, 26, of Statenville was reportedly driving a 2004 Jeep Cherokee east on GA 376. Cassandra Davis, 54, was reportedly traveling west on GA 376, reports stated.
“Ms. Hernandez failed to yield to Ms. Davis when turning left onto Whitewater Road, traveling into the path of the motorcycle,” Kelch said. “The motorcycle struck the front passenger side of the Cherokee. Ms. Davis was transported to South Georgia Medical Center and pronounced deceased.”
Hernandez and a passenger in the Cherokee, Robert Joseph Bellew, 26, of Valdosta, were not injured in the collision, reports stated.
The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the collision and charges will be pending the outcome of their investigation.
“Troopers do suspect drugs to be a contributing factor in the collision but will be pending a toxicology report,” Kelch said.
