VALDOSTA – Florida man leads officers on a high-speed chase Monday night with a woman and two small children in the car.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle being pursued by Cook County deputies travelling into Lowndes County on Interstate 75, said LCSO Capt. Stryde Jones.

“The vehicle was reported to be driving in excess of 100 miles per hour and had refused to stop,” Jones said.

The pursuit originated in Sparks and continued on I-75 where officers from the Hahira Police Department and the Georgia Sate Patrol assisted in the chase.

“A Lowndes County deputy joined the pursuit around Exit 22, which continued south,” Jones said. “As the pursuit traveled south, the driver of the fleeing vehicle intentionally swerved and tried to strike a deputy’s patrol car but missed.

A GSP trooper performed at P.I.T. maneuver on the vehicle near Exit 2, causing it to spin and strike a guardrail.

“As deputies attempted to arrest the driver, he continued to attempt to drive away by pressing the accelerator and shifting gears,” Jones said.

Adrian Levar Garner, 34, of Leesburg, Florida was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, speeding and two counts of failure to restrain a child, reports stated.

Garner will also face separate charges from the Sparks Police Department for speeding (speeds in excess of 125 mph), felony attempt to elude, driving too fast for conditions, multiple counts of failure to maintain lane and improper lane change, reckless driving and cruelty to children in the first degree.

The woman and two children, ages three and one, were reportedly unharmed and were taken to a local motel.

Garner was taken to the Lowndes County Jail.

“This was senseless,” Jones said. “The only thing it appeared he had was a suspended license, and to not only endanger our deputies, but the rest of the public and the people in the car with him, was senseless.”
