VALDOSTA – The second annual Corks for Hope event aims to raise money for local cancer patients tonight.

Corks For Hope is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts at 527 North Patterson St.

The event features live music, prize drawings, a wine reverse draw and a live wine auction. Last year’s event raised over $11,000 for the Partnership Cancer fund, and organizers hope this years event will provide participants with a fun evening while raising even more money.

“Personally, I think in our culture we like to have fun, and this is a fun event,” said Robbin Miller. “We like to mingle and spend time together and socialize. This is a great way to accomplish those things along with a way to raise money for cancer patients who need our help.”

Tickets for the event are $50 per person plus a bottle of wine. The wine bottle will be gathered and separated into two groups which will then be given away through a reverse draw.

“Last year, the winners took home more than 60 bottles each,” Miller said.

High end bottles of wine can be purchased through a live auction. Last year’s event auctioned approximately 20 high end bottles of wine, including one bottle which fetched $750.

“We are also going to have some other drawing items such as wine racks, wine coolers, a wine and cheese basket and jewelry,” Miller said.

Catering with be provided by Covingtons. Corks for Hope will also feature live music with Cody Turpen.
