ALBANY — A crackdown on impaired drivers is rolling through south Georgia.

Operation Rolling Thunder is part of a state highway safety initiative designed to crack down on impaired drivers.  The operation involves a series of moving roadblocks which took place in Dougherty County early Friday morning.

Officers from several state agencies worked with local police to find anyone driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, and open warrants.

A report from WALB stated that in the first hour of the roadblock, officers arrested six people, had a vehicle chase, and pulled over multiple suspected vehicles.

Last year during this time officers arrested 101 people for driving under the influence in a 3-day period.  This is part of a statewide effort held throughout the year at different locations.
