VALDOSTA — Georgia State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies are in search of a hit and run suspect who struck a child Monday morning as he attempted to board his school bus.
Monday morning, Troopers responded to a hit and run incident on Georgia Highway 125 near Moody Drive in Lanier County. Reports state the school bus had stopped to load children at the Bennett Mobile Home Park north of Walker’s Crossing.
A young child, Xavier Myers, only 4 years old, was crossing the street to board the bus when a suspect disregarded the bus lights, drove by the bus and struck the child with the vehicle, knocking him into a ditch. The suspect then drove off.
Troopers are searching for a silver or white mid-sized passenger car with damage suspected on the passenger side head light, as a result of the crash. Reports from WALB state the driver was traveling an estimated 50 mph when it hit the victim.
The child was rushed to South Georgia Medical Center where, at last report, he was in the Emergency Room receiving treatment. No other children were injured in the incident.
If anyone else has information related to this incident, they are asked to contact Cpl. David Sellers of the Georgia State Patrol at 229.333.5215.
