VALDOSTA — A report of a disturbance near a Valdosta apartment complex results in a chase, search, and eventual arrest of two suspects.

Wednesday afternoon Lowndes County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 1407 St. Augustine Road regarding a report of a disturbance.

Upon arriving, deputies found a vehicle with a male, Roderick Antoine Davis, 39 of Orange Park, FL, and a female, Erika Nicole Bennett, 23 of Tifton, sitting in a running, parked vehicle. Deputies approached the car and attempted to speak with the two occupants.  However, as the deputies attempted to engage the two, Davis placed the car in drive and sped away.

Deputies gave chase, crossing into Brooks County on Highway 133.  However, they lost sight of the suspects’ vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, a call was received by 911 reporting an abandoned vehicle at a house on Highway 133, parked in their back yard.  Deputies dispatched the canine unit from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and began tracking the suspects as they fled on foot through a neighborhood, wooded areas and eventually back across the Withlacoochee River into Lowndes County.

The pair was eventually arrested in a field in the 3200 block Val Tech Road.

Authorities noted both Davis and Bennett were wanted by other agencies and charges related to this chase will be added to those. Both were taken to the Lowndes County Jail to appear in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court for an arraignment hearing where a bond will be considered.

Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine expressed thanks to the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office for their help and is especially thankful for the work of the canine handlers from his office. “The canine deputies continuously train for these situations. Their efforts paid off today. To keep the track across that river and keep going was great work.”
