CORDELE — A teen has died after after a train collided with a car.

WALB is reporting the accident occurred Thursday around 1:50 p.m. near 7th Street and 22nd Avenue in Cordele.

According to the report, a white Dodge Dart with two people inside was traveling west on 22nd Avenue between 5th and 7th Street.

The report states Synia Curry, 19, was driving and Javion Walker, 14, was a passenger in the car when it was hit on the passenger side by the train at a crossing.

Walker was taken to Crisp Regional Hospital and listed in critical condition.  He later died.

Curry was not seriously injured and treated at the scene.

Investigators told WALB that the car was thrown about 200 yards down the train tracks before it came to a stop.  The train, operated by Norfolk Southern, did not appear to be traveling at a high or unsafe speed, according to the report.

There was no immediate word on any charges related to the collision or specifics of why the car was on the crossing when the train crossed.
