VALDOSTA — The Georgia State Patrol has reported a fatality early Tuesday morning involving a pedestrian.
The accident occurred on US Highway 84/Georgia Highway 38 near CCC Road.
Trooper Shane Copeland responded to the scene to investigate the crash. A pedestrian, identified as Johnny Eugene Roe, 38 of Valdosta, was running east on GA 38 in the westbound lanes against traffic along the median. Roe entered the right westbound lane and was struck by multiple vehicles. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Debris located at the scene of the crash revealed that a silver Jeep Cherokee had been involved in the crash and had left the scene.
Trooper Billy Cope located the vehicle at a nearby business in Valdosta. The Jeep had minor damage and after being interviewed it was determined that the driver was unaware of striking Mr. Roe, believing he struck a deer.
The crash is still under investigation and no charges are expected to be filed.
