VALDOSTA – Scintilla Charter Academy will celebrate the opening of the first charter school in the Valdosta/Lowndes County area with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, September 2 at 4:00 p.m. on the school’s campus.
The Honorable Nathan Deal, Governor of Georgia, will be the keynote speaker and will be introduced by Georgia’s State School Superintendent, Richard Woods. In addition, members of the Georgia Charter School Commission and Georgia Charter School Association will also share their remarks during the ceremony.
“After a lot of hard work and many answered prayers it is amazing to see this dream become a reality,” said Julie Hiers, Scintilla’s principal. “We are looking forward to hosting our community and local and state leaders and can’t wait to celebrate our school and scholars.”
Just over 400 students are enrolled at Scintilla Charter Academy for the 2015-2016 school year. “We are at our maximum capacity and could not be more thrilled,” said Mandy Avera, Dean of Students and School Support. “We know that our small school environment and enthusiastic teaching staff will make this a successful first year.”
The ribbon cutting will take place at the academy’s front entrance at 4:00 p.m. and will be followed by a tour and reception. The campus is located at 2171 East Park Avenue and the event is open to the public.
