MILITARY FAMILY AID

Tift County is doing its part to aid military families during the holiday season.  Donated trees from the Brumby and White Tree Farm offered Trees for the Troops for the seventh consecutive year. The trees are sent to various units around the state. The total this year is up to 150 trees.

ORGANIC FOOD GRANT

Federal agriculture officials say an Atlanta-based program is among the groups being given grant funding to connect school cafeterias with produce grown on local farms. U.S. Department of Agriculture officials said Tuesday that Georgia Organics Inc. will split more than $884,484 awarded for projects in the Southeast to create farm-to-school programs that will help boost consumption of local goods, launch school garden programs and more. The Tift County School System was awarded a$37,000 grant for its Farm to School Program.
