VALDOSTA — One hundred forty-two students from Lowndes, Lanier, and Echols Counties exhibited hogs at the 38th annual Lowndes Area Market Hog Show on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. The exhibitors were first through twelfth grade students and either members of FFA or 4H. The event was held at the Lowndes County Fairgrounds/Civic Center.
Chason Tillman of Lowndes FFA exhibited the Grand Champion. Elizabeth Fisher of Lowndes 4H exhibited the Reserve Champion hog. Other Top Five Overall Winners included: Grace Mullis of Lanier 4-H, 3rd Overall; Emory Parramore of Lowndes 4-H, 4th Overall; and, Jackson Biles of Lowndes 4-H, 5th Overall.
Weight class winners included: Class 2, Jackson Biles of Lowndes 4-H; Class 3, Jada Bond of Lowndes 4H; Class 4, Dillon Scarborough of Echols 4H; Class 5, Lincoln Hardeman of Lowndes FFA; Class 6, Elizabeth Fisher of Lowndes FFA; Class 7, Connie Rogers of Echols 4H; Class 8, Tori Millirons of Lowndes 4H; Class 9, Chason Tillman of Lowndes FFA; Class 10, Kortlyn Simpson of Echols 4-H; and, Class 11, Emory Parramore of Lowndes 4-H.
Showmanship winners included: Grade 1, Turner Smith of Echols 4H; Grade 2, Josh Furney of Lanier 4H; Grade 3, Gauge Williford of Lanier 4H; Grade 4, Joshua Furney of Lanier 4H; Grade 5, Wyatt Crosby of Lowndes 4H; Grade 6, JD Peavy of Lowndes FFA; Grade 7, Emory Parramore of Lowndes 4H; Grade 8, Danielle Schweitzer of Lowndes FFA; Grade 9, Jordan Nolan of Echols FFA; Grade 10, Brooke Smith of Echols 4H; Grade 11, Caroline Langdale of Lowndes FFA; and, Grade 12, Callie Warren of Lowndes FFA.
The main judge was Ricky Stephenson. Judge Childs praised the exhibitors in the event for the quality of the animals. He was assisted with junior showmanship classes by Lynn Davis.
The Sale will follow on Wednesday evening at the same venue. It will begin with the auction of the Grand Champion hog at 7 pm. The public is asked to come support these students at the Sale. The Show is sponsored by Lowndes FFA Alumni Chapter, Lowndes County Farm Bureau, and Echols County Farm Bureau.
