City Hosts Public Meeting to Inform Citizens of Annexed Island Construction Schedule

Valdosta City CourthouseVALDOSTA, GA -The City of Valdosta will host a public meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 15, for city property owners and renters located in Annexed Islands 27, 35B and 77C. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room, located at 300 N. Lee Street.

City representatives, contractor representatives and other key city staff members will be present at the meeting to help answer questions regarding the tentative construction schedule, accessibility to properties during the construction, and any of other questions relating to the connection of city services as a result of annexation.

Annexed Island 27 is located in the Highland Heights area, which includes Bemiss Road, Tomlinson Road, Heirs Street, Hamm Street, Highland Heights Drive, 1st, 2nd & 3rd Streets, Gard Street and Highland Heights Lane. Annexed Island 35B is located in the Pineridge Subdivision area, which includes Betty Jo Drive, Thea Lane, Simpson Place, Briggs Street, Jadan Place and Walmar Place. Annexed Island 77C is located in the St. Augustine Northwest area and includes Kelly Drive, Colin Drive, Maude Street, Chaney Street and Jordan Drive.

Construction work for these annexed islands will consist of installing a new 8-inch Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sanitary sewer main, sanitary sewer manholes, 6-inch sewer services, 8-inch PVC water main, 8-inch ductile iron (D.I.) water main, water valves and fittings, fire hydrant and valves, and water services. The scope of the projects also involves removing and replacing driveways and pavement, monitoring traffic control and erosion control, and other related work.

The construction projects, which will begin this week, will take approximately 210 days to complete, weather permitting. Traffic barricades, barrels, and signage will be installed in place to alert the traveling public of the construction. Motorists are urged to adhere to all warning signs and drive with extra caution, for their safety and the safety of the construction workers.

The City of Valdosta apologizes for any inconvenience as a result of the construction and appreciates the patience and cooperation of property owners and renters impacted by the necessary project.
