CAIRO, GA – Tuesday night Charles Renaud believed he was Cairo’s mayor-elect, but by Wednesday morning he heard otherwise. Bobby Burn Sr. was the actual winner of the mayoral election by only eleven votes. Grady County Elections Supervisor Carolyn B. Lee said the mix-up happened when the reading of votes was given to the consolidation workers from one of the machine tapes rather than the accumulation tape from both machines in the registrar’s office that were used for advanced voting. The final count of votes in Cairo were 408 to 397.
