A drug task force knocked on the door of the home at 3037 NW 37th Boulevard, and when 41-year old Melanie Fields answered the door, police entered the home. Inside, they found various amounts of meth, smoking devices, gas generators, ammunition, lye and other drug paraphernalia inside the residence.

A unidentified special needs child was removed from the home and taken to a Lake City hospital for treatment.

62-year old Bruce Thornton was also inside the home at the time of the incident. The pair are now charged with child abuse, possession of narcotic equipment, manufacturing of methamphetamine, and a capital charge of manufacturing 400 grams or more of methamphetamine.
