After months of playing the ‘nice guy,’ Valdosta Police say they’ve just about had enough with motorists driving through the West Hill Avenue detour. Starting Thursday, the VPD says they will be ticketing those who are refusing to take the detour.

Local traffic can either take Savannah Avenue or River Street to avoid the detour- and subsequent $112 fine.

That new overpass is expected to be completed by December of next year. When completed, it is expected to help drivers avoid long wait times when trains crawl through that area.
