A brief standoff Saturday morning ended peacefully with one man being arrested. It happened in the 600 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Valdosta when 48-year old Willie Brown holed himself up in the home with a rifle.
Police were called to the scene around 1:15 Saturday morning after Brown’s live-in girlfriend claimed he had assaulted her during an argument. While she was on the phone with 911, Brown allegedly went to his car and grabbed a rifle, firing it in the air.
When officers arrived, Brown went back inside the home and surrendered around five minutes after negotiators began a line of communication. The 48-year old is now at the Lowndes County Jail on charges of battery, discharging a firearm while intoxicated, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
