valdosta pd carA brief standoff Saturday morning ended peacefully with one man being arrested. It happened in the 600 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Valdosta when 48-year old Willie Brown holed himself up in the home with a rifle.

Police were called to the scene around 1:15 Saturday morning after Brown’s live-in girlfriend claimed he had assaulted her during an argument. While she was on the phone with 911, Brown allegedly went to his car and grabbed a rifle, firing it in the air.

When officers arrived, Brown went back inside the home and surrendered around five minutes after negotiators began a line of communication. The 48-year old is now at the Lowndes County Jail on charges of battery, discharging a firearm while intoxicated, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
