Valdosta Fire TruckValdosta firefighters can now hit the streets with two new fire trucks.

Valdosta spent $900,000 of SPLOST revenue on the vehicles, the first new trucks for the fire department in 16 years.

The trucks were custom designed by Valdosta firefighters to hold twice the water of the old trucks. Two of the trucks built in the 70’s and 80’s will be taken out of service.

The plan to purchase the trucks was put into place over two years ago, and officials hope the new vehicles will be utilized for at least 20 years.

The old trucks will be auctioned off. The new trucks will serve fire stations #1 and #5.
