school backpackBROOKS COUNTY, GA– Members of the Brooks County School Board made the tough decision of cutting their School Resource Officer Program. The School Board currently pays $50,000 for the two officers which they will be cutting-one at Brooks High School and the other at Brooks Middle School.

“It’s purely a question on whether were getting the most bang for what we’re paying,” said board member Brad Shealy.

According to Shealy, the security budget will stay at $50,000 for the next school year, but they’re looking at other options to get the most for their money. Parents with children in the Brooks County School System worry about their children’s safety after the absence of the Resource officers.

“Without the officers there, our children and the staff at the schools, are put at jeopardy,” said Jordan.

The Brooks County School Board are hopeful they can work out a more budget friendly agreement with the Sheriff’s Office, or they can take another route for safety.

The Sheriff’s office and the Brooks County School Board will be meeting soon.
