Rep. Scott to Host Congressional Art Competition Awards Reception

Congressional ArtValdosta, GA- U.S. Congressman Austin Scott (GA-08) will host an awards reception to honor the 8th District’s winners of the 32nd Annual Congressional Art Competition on Sunday, April 28th from 2-3:30 pm. The event will be held at SMITH Northview Hospital, a campus of South Georgia Medical Center, and is open to the public and media. The grand prize winner will be eligible for scholarships and receive airfare to Washington D.C. where the winning piece will hang in the United States Capitol for one year. The 2nd and 3rd place award recipients will have the opportunity to display their artworks in Rep. Scott’s Warner Robins and Tifton offices.

Additionally, for the first time, Rep. Scott is adding a “People’s Choice Award” to this year’s competition. Between April 25th and April 29th, constituents will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite artwork via the Congressman’s Facebook page. The “People’s Choice Award” winner will be unveiled at noon on the 29th when the Congressman updates his Cover Photo to reflect the winning artwork.

Rep. Scott offered the following comments on this year’s Congressional Art Competition: “To see the winning works of art hanging in the United States Capitol is not just a great sight, but also a great reminder that our country is full of very talented leaders of tomorrow. He continued, “This year’s Congressional Art Competition awards reception is a great opportunity for our 8th district community to celebrate the talented high school artists in our area and show our appreciation to the parents and teachers who help them nurture their talents. We welcome anyone from the community to join us and thank South Georgia Medical Center for the tremendous amount of help they’ve provided.”
