Bill Watson, Lowndes County Coroner, claims that the investigation into the death of Kendrick Johnson at Lowndes High School was not handled properly.

Johnson’s body was found inside a rolled up wrestling mat in the Lowndes High School Gym January 11. The Sheriff’s Office has said no foul play was suspected in the death, but Watson does not believe that announcement should have been made.

Johnson’s body was discovered around 9 a.m., but Watson says he was not notified until around 3 p.m. Watson also says that, in his opinion, the scene had been compromised by the time he had arrived.

The Sheriff’s Office maintains that Watson was notified and responded in a manner consistent with previous investigations.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has said that the official autopsy and toxicology report will be done within the next two weeks.
