A Brooks County town will have to unexpectedly look for a new police chief after their top cop passed away while on duty this week. 47-year old Anthony Barfield, Sr. reportedly had trouble breathing while on duty in Barwick Tuesday afternoon.

He was rushed to Archbold Medical Center that night, where he died later that night. It appeared that Barfield died of natural causes, however, the GBI will run an autopsy later this week.

Barfield was a 20-year veteran of law enforcement, and had served as the chief of police in Barwick since 2009.
