Dec. 31: Travel Safe on New Year’s Eve. The City of Valdosta advises all citizens to drive safely during the New Year’s Eve festivities. Vehicular accidents on city streets can often create injuries and unexpected expenses that can be avoided if drivers will simply:

Slow down
Wear their seatbelts
Drive defensively
Do not drive after drinking alcohol

Jan. 1: New Year’s Day Sanitation Schedule. The City of Valdosta will be closed for the New Year’s Day holiday. The Sanitation Division will NOT collect residential garbage, recyclables or yard waste on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Citizens who normally have their sanitation collected on Wednesdays should place their garbage, recyclables and yard waste at the curbside by 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2 for both Wednesday and Thursday pickups. Call (229) 259-3590 for more information.

Jan 3: First Friday in Downtown Valdosta. The popular First Friday event will feature live music, dining specials, shopping and more of the fun that the community expects on the first Friday of every month, beginning at 6 p.m., in beautiful downtown Valdosta. Visit www.valdostamainstreet.com for more information, or call (229) 259-3577.

Jan. 4: Bring One for the Chipper.
