Online course creators at Freedom Bound Business, analyzed the average monthly Google searches for the top online course platforms, as well as terms such has ‘online courses’ and ‘online learning.’ The states were ranked in order of which ones have the highest monthly searches per 100,000 citizens.

At the top of the list is Florida, boasting an average monthly search volume of 1,329 per 100,000 residents for terms related to online courses. The most popular course platform is Khan Academy, with 721 monthly searches per 100,000 citizens. The most in demand job role in the state is customer service representative; online courses that may benefit people in this role include communication and conflict de-escalation with customers.  

In second place is Maryland, with an average monthly search volume of 1,244 per 100,000 residents.  The most popular learning platform in the state is Khan Academy, closely followed by Udemy. In Maryland, there is a high demand for computer and data scientists, who can enhance their skills through online courses in areas like computer architecture or Python. 

Virginia ranks third, with an average monthly search volume of 1,183 per 100,000 citizens. Nurses, who are among the state’s most in-demand professionals, can expand their expertise with online courses such as clinical research and anatomy. The course platform with the most Google searches in Virginia is Udemy, with 332 per 100k citizens on average. 

In fourth place is New Jersey. For every 100,000 people in the state, there are 1,148 monthly Google searches for terms related to online courses. There is a high demand for pharmacy technicians in the state, and there are many online course topics that can help people in this role expand their knowledge. The most popular course platform in New Jersey is Khan Academy, with 377 monthly searches per 100,000 citizens.  

Next on the list is Washington, with 1,134 average monthly searches for terms related to online courses. Truck drivers, who are one of the state’s most in-demand professionals, can widen their knowledge by taking online courses in time management and safe driving techniques. 

With 1,129 monthly Google searches per 100,000 residents, New York ranks sixth. Nurses are in high demand in the state and people in this job role can benefit from many different online courses, for example, team leadership. 

Georgia is seventh in the ranking, with 1,101 average monthly Google searches. Transportation is among the most in demand industry in the state, and its employees may benefit from courses in advanced driving techniques, for example.  

In eighth place is Massachusetts. In the state, there are 1,056 monthly Google searches for terms related to online courses. Courses in cyber technology may be useful for a professional in the technology sector, who are in particular demand in Massachusetts.  

Ninth is California, with 1,036 average monthly Google searches for online courses. In this state, jobs in the food service industry have a high demand for staff, who could take courses in food safety and customer service to widen their knowledge in their industry. 

In tenth place is Colorado, with 1,019 monthly Google searches for terms related to online courses. Khan Academy is the most popular course platform in the state and one of the most in demand professionals are health care assistants. People in this job role may choose to expand their knowledge by taking online courses in areas such as medical terminology and communication skills.
