Organizers of the Veterans Day Parade and festivities in Thomasville are looking to add more participants. Planners and city officials are working with veterans groups to put together the November 11th event which gets underway at 6 p.m. Tourism Director Bonnie Hayes says that they need more military families to take part in the event, riding on floats or in cars, or just walking and waving to the crowds. For more information call the Tourism Center at 229-228-7977. A successful 2016 event could lead to others in the future.


The family of Albany teenager Austin Scott has started a GoFundMe Page and other events have been put in place in order to help the family with medical and living expenses. Scott is in an Atlanta hospital getting ready for surgery after being accidentally shot in the face earlier this month.


A new sanitation collection system comes to Moultrie on November 1st. The new carts that will be used can hold up to 50% more trash that the old containers. Officials with the Public Works Department say that as much as 96 gallons of residential trash per home can be picked up once a week.


It’s time to honor military retirees at Moody Air Force Base and the amenities on base are featuring special discounts; the golf course, bowling alley and other outlets are all in play. Fri, 28 Oct at 7:30 a.m. it’s the Retiree Appreciation Golf Tournament at Quiet Pines Golf Course. Sat, 29 Oct, starting at 7:30 a.m. Base tour and static displays, refreshments, health and information fair, free picnic and door prizes. ID card renewal will also be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.


18 year old Ricky Barron III was acquitted in the murder case involving the death of Timothy Linder in October of 2014, however, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison to be served consecutively for his part in Linder’s armed robbery and five years of probation on firearms violations. Barron was only 16 year old age when the Linder’s robbery-murder took place. Angel Clark and Andreah Mitchell plead guilty to the lesser charge of armed robbery in exchange for their testimony.
