VALDOSTA – Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested an Ohio man on Interstate 75 Thursday morning for possession of marijuana, LSD and illegally imported testosterone.
At 10:30 a.m., a LCSO deputy stopped a vehicle on I-75 near mile marker 7 after clocking the vehicle at 83 miles-per-hour in a 70 m.p.h. zone, said LCSO Capt. Stryde Jones.
“While the deputy spoke with the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, he noticed the person was extremely nervous as they talked and the driver explained he was travelling to Florida for vacation,” Jones said “The deputy could also smell an odor of marijuana emitting from inside the car and could see loose marijuana in the driver’s seat and continued talking with the driver.”
The driver, Benjamin Wesley Fugate, 18, of Middleton, Ohio reportedly gave the deputy permission to search the interior of the vehicle. During the search deputies located a quantity of marijuana and a quantity of liquid in a bottle that was labeled as “Test 400.”
“Investigation revealed that “Test 400” is a form of testosterone, a schedule 3 drug usually imported to the United States from Mexico,” Jones said.
The search also revealed a 30-pack of beer, which had been opened and some of the beer consumed, Jones said.
Fugate was placed under arrest and during a search of his person, the deputy reportedly located another quantity of marijuana and 10 tabs of LSD that was wrapped in tinfoil.
Fugate has been charged with possession of a schedule 3 drug, speeding, possession of marijuana, expired tag and underage possession of alcohol, reports said.
“The persistence of the deputies on the interstate continue to make a difference as the look beyond the routine traffic violation. Getting this person off the road before he hurt himself or someone else is great work,” said LCSO Sheriff Chris Prine.
