Driver who caused I-285 Accident faces Charges

ATLANTA — Sandy Springs police have charged a driver who they say caused a chain reaction wreck that sent two semis careening off of Interstate 285 last week.

They also released dramatic video of the crash. (See video by clicking the link below)

Dashcam video from a driver on I-285 shows a Publix truck losing control last Friday, striking a tanker truck which sent both crashing through a median barrier onto Georgia 400 below.

“Everything I saw was exactly how I saw in the video,” Joshua Gautreaux, who witnessed the wreck from his uncle’s truck, told WSB. “It was out of this world. It was Hollywood.”

Sandy Springs police have charged Howard Silverstein, 64, with causing the wreck.

“Kia Sorrento failed to maintain his lane, came into the lane of the Publix truck, which hit the Publix truck, which caused the Publix truck to also hit the fuel tanker,” said Ron Momon of the Sandy Springs Police Department, in the WSB report.
