VILLA RICA — The Wisconsin-based Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) recently made the news when they urged the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech to “bench” their football chaplains. Now, they’re targeting a West Georgia high school football team after discovering a Youtube video showing football players and a coach being baptized before practice.

The video was initially posted by First Baptist Villa Rica, but has since been removed. According to a letter sent by FFRF to Carroll County Superintendent Scott Cowert, the video includes clips of the baptism, text from bible verse Luke 3:21, and the coaches and players praying together in a prayer circle.

Now the organization is demanding that the Carroll County School System “investigate and take action” to prevent future religious activities. As is typical from FFRF, they ended their letter with a threat.

“We recently sued Emanuel County School District in Georgia for similarly promoting religion in defiance of the law and are seeking punitive damages and personal liability from the teachers, principal, and superintendent involved. We prefer to settle these matters cooperatively, as we did with you regarding school-sponsored baccalaureate services in April 2015.”
