TALLAHASSEE — A mother has been arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child after her two-year-old died of blunt force trauma in the care of the woman’s boyfriend.
Tallahassee police say that Jaferia Evans was arrested Tuesday and is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child after her boyfriend, Antonyo Woods, was indicted on first degree murder and aggravated child abuse charges last week.
The two-year-old died on May 14 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Woods initially told police that the child was choking, but doctors noticed marks on the boy’s body.
Police say Evans was aware of the abuse and injuries caused to her child and as the two-year-old’s primary caretaker, her actions were negligent in protecting the child from the “multiple torturous and aggravated batteries he faced over the days and week preceding his death.”
