Ronnie “Jay” Towns, 28 of McRae, was arrested on January 26 after the bodies of a Marietta couple, Bud and June Runion, were found near his home.  He was indicted for their murders on Monday.

The Telfair County Grand Jury indicted Towns on charges of malice murder, felony murder and armed robbery.

The Runion’s bodies were found along a dirt road south of McRae.

Elrey “Bud” Runion, 69, and his wife, June, 66, left Marietta in search of an antique car, a 1966 Ford Mustang, they had advertised interest to purchase on Craig’s List.  They had been asked to meet regarding the car in the small town of Jacksonville, near McRae.

Monday’s indictment charges that Towns, armed with a gun, stole Bud Runion’s cellphone, wallet and the couple’s small SUV. The vehicle was later found submerged in a nearby pond.  He is also charged with stealing June Runion’s purse and phone.

Reports state, though no formal response to the charges have been made by Towns, he has not confessed to anything regarding the murder, according to his attorney, Franklin J. Hogue of Macon.

Towns is married with a 2-year old daughter.

Prosecutors have not yet decided if they will seek the death penalty against Towns.
