ATLANTA — A medical marijuana bill has passed the Senate.
By a vote of 54-1, the bill would exempt from prosecution parents who bring cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive marijuana derivative, into Georgia to treat their children suffering from epilepsy.
No other form of marijuana would be allowed for children or adults. The recently passed House bill covers a wider range of diseases, including cancer, multiple sclerosis, ALS, Parkinson’s and Sickle Cell.
The lone No vote came from Senator Curt Thompson, a Democrat from Norcross, because he felt the measure too narrow.
Lawmakers will work toward a combined bill next week. The House passed its version of the bill by a vote of 158-2 late last month.
