drawer 2

drawer 1Drawers are basically black holes for clothing. They’re seemingly impossible to organize with jeans and t shirts and tank tops all overflowing out of them like an octopus’s arms. That’s why, when I spotted a set of drawer organizers at IKEA, I practically skipped home to organize the black drawers you see in my closet. IKEA’s SKUBB boxes (a set of 6) come in a variety of sizes and colors which fit perfectly in IKEA’s drawers. Personally, I love that the boxes come in different sizes so that I can arrange and organize them in a way that makes sense to me within the drawers. Depending on the size of the clothing I’m organizing or the amount of clothing I need to organize, I use the different sizes in different ways. For example, the bigger boxes might work best to sort my shorts due to their size, but they also work great to organize my absurd collection of white tank tops. The boxes feel like they’re made of a high quality cardboard which is covered in some sort of semi-shiny, smooth, durable plastic cover. However, even with seemingly simple materials, I’ve had mine for about 2 years and they’ve really held up quite well. I also really like the fact that they can condense so easily when not in use. A friend of mine reminded me that she loves her boxes, and I do too, because when I don’t need them, I can unzip them and they collapse into the size of an envelope. This way, if you can’t use all 6 right away, these boxes can easily be kept out of the way anyplace you like until you’re ready for them! However, after this article, I doubt you’ll have any problem at all finding ways to use them!

I use mine to organize all of those difficult items: underwear, socks, tights, tank tops, pajamas, work out wear, chargers, etc.

drawer 2Here, you’ll see my tank top/camisole drawer. Tank tops can be such hard things to organize. They’re so flimsy they tend to fall off of hangers, or fail to stay properly folded in drawers. Therefore, these drawer inserts can be the answer to your problems. I prefer to sort my tanks, camisoles, and tube tops by color since that seems to make the most sense to me. The biggest boxes are holding the white and grey tank tops which I have the most of.

drawer 3Here, you’ll see my sock drawer. I love socks! I feel like they’re a great way to express yourself in an understated, fun, and unexpectable way so I have a ton. Starting in the back on the left, you’ll see multicolored socks I like to wear with oxfords in the summer. In the front on the left are my warm, fuzzy, thick socks which are worn with riding boots, Uggs, and rain boots. In the middle in the back you’ll see my collection of tights with my favorite maroon ones right on top! In the middle in the front you’ll see my collection of thick, white ankle socks to be worn with tennis shoes or for working out. In the back on the right, you’ll see my knee high socks and those with duller colors which I enjoy wearing with my booties, skirts, and cropped skinnies in the Fall and Winter. Finally, in the front on the right, you’ll see my collection of “barely there” socks which I wear with my Toms, ballet flats, and the like.

Finally, remember that these drawer organizers are completely limitless for men as well. For dapper fellows with plenty of t shirts, underwear, socks, ties, tie clips, and handkerchiefs, these drawer inserts can be the answer to prayers. My husband uses them in his nightstand to sort out the items from his pockets every day, like coins, business cards, pens, etc. That way, everything’s ready to go when he needs to load them back up in the morning. We also use them in our junk drawer to separate batteries, extra keys, as well as other odds and ends. However, you feel free to organize your things the way you feel works best! Order the drawer inserts from IKEA here. For only $7.99, you’ll get six drawer inserts so stock up fast!
