In his State of the State address Governor Nathan Deal proposed a 3 percent pay increase for employees of the State of Georgia, he included pre-k teachers in the plan that is contingent upon passage of his budget by state lawmakers. The governor also wants to create a pre-k teacher merit pay initiative. Included in this plan are persons working in church connected pre-k programs, those working in public schools and daycare centers that are not under state hiring practices and pay regulations.
28 year old Donte Glauvitz was wanted by Adel law enforcement in connection with the armed robbery of a couple in a convenience store. The search for the suspect had been ongoing for a week but Glauvitz has now turned himself in to the authorities. His criminal actions were captured on video surveillance cameras.
law enforcement officials in Thomas County say that there are familiar circumstances surrounding the break-in at a Dollar General store in Meigs and similar crimes during which the robbers used cutting tools in order to gain access to merchandise and safes. Officials are asking that persons with information regarding these criminal incidents contact them.
Moultrie resident Byron Silas is behind bars and facing multiple charges including possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and weapons violation. Investigators of burglaries in that area went to the residence of James Howell in connection with the same investigation and discovered cocaine, cash, ammunition and stolen weapons.
Fugitive James Earl Bridges is now in custody in Lee County after he was spotted in Albany. He was sought in connection with a drug bust at what officers deemed a drive-thru operation for drug sales at a motel. 19 year old Franklin Lawson was already in custody after agents seized more than a pound of marijuana, ecstasy, and Oxycodone pills, worth about $13,000 on the street.
Trooper Chris Kelch of the Georgia State Patrol reports that 41 year old Travis Allen Shaffer of Hahira was airlifted to Thomasville’s Archbold Hospital after being involved in a Skipper bridge Road two vehicle accident. He was ejected from his vehicle which overturned after he crashed into another vehicle driven by Valdosta Pastor and State Prison Chaplin J. P. Miller. Miller and his wife Barbara were transported to South Georgia Medical Center with what was reported to be minor injuries. Shaffer was last listed in serious condition. Officers report that alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the collision.
