A budget that must be approved by the close of business Monday in Tifton could potentially include a three-mil property tax increase. That hike, according to city officials, would bring in close to $1 million per year.

City leaders say they have cut all they can, and have no choice left but to raise property taxes. That hike, however, could lead to more foreclosures within city limits on those who already struggle with the current rate.

Councilman Christopher Parrot told WALB that the proposed “increase is a mistake.” The council is scheduled to meet on Monday.
