ATKINSON CO, Ga. – Humberto Ocampo and Omar Venegas, both age 21, pleaded guilty to their part in an Atkinson County drive-by shooting from 2017.

Venegas plead guilty to Aggravated Assault and received a straight 10 year prison sentence. Part of Venegas’ sentence contained a banishment clause, so that if he does get paroled, then he will be banished from over 15 south Georgia counties.

Ocampo pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and received a sentence of 20 years with the first 7 years to be spent in prison. Ocampo will also be banished from Atkinson, Clinch, Lanier, Cook and Berrien counties for his entire 20 year sentence.

It is believed that the incident was gang related to the criminal street gang known as SUR 13.

“I’m proud of these convictions and glad that we were able to send these dangerous men off,” remarked District Attorney Dick Perryman. “I hope this will serve as a reminder to others out there that my office will continue aggressive prosecution of violent crimes. The Pearson Police Department and Atkinson County Sheriff’s Office did a great job in this matter and we could not have secured this plea if it were not for their skillful investigation. I am especially proud of the hard work that Assistant District Attorney Jason Cain put into this case.”
