VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Tree Commission has announced its annual tree sale to encourage citizens to plant trees in honor of the City of Valdosta’s 30th year as a Tree City USA. This is the fifth year that the Commission has offered trees at wholesale prices. This year, the Live Oak Tree has been selected.

The Live Oak Tree is the state tree of Georgia and its majestic heritage is well known in the South. It is a shade tree that is widely adaptable to many soils and conditions. A long lived tree, the oldest Live Oak in Georgia is estimated to be well over 300 years old. While the mature size can vary, the typical open-grown trees can reach 60 feet in height with a limb spread of 80 feet. The Live Oak is evergreen and produces acorns for wildlife.

“We would like to thank the residents of Valdosta who work to keep Valdosta a lovely, tree lined city, and we hope that more will join in the effort to keep Valdosta a green and growing area. These wholesale prices allow residents to purchase affordable, long lived trees that will grow to provide shade, beauty, and fresh air,” said Valdosta Tree Commission member Monica Haynes.

Trees offered for the annual tree sale are wholesale price and the Valdosta Tree Commission does not make any money off of their sale. This event is simply a way for the community to have access to affordable trees. Quantities are limited, so it is suggested you send in your order soon. Three gallon live oaks are priced at $6.00 for the annual tree sale. For additional information, please call Monica Haynes at 229-412-2585 or Amy Hall, 229-561-5173.

Checks made payable to the Valdosta Tree Commission must be received by Tuesday, January 19th. Please mail to Amy Hall, c/o Valdosta Tree Commission, PO Box 1125, Valdosta, GA 31603. Please include your phone number with your order.
