Tampa, FL- A somewhat surprising run through the Gulf South tournament and into the NCAAs ended in rather short order for Valdosta State’s baseball team in Tampa.
After falling to Delta State on Thursday, VSU stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament by defeating Stillman 6-2 Friday morning. That set up a rematch with DSU in a loser-goes-home game Saturday afternoon.
The Blazers got on the board in the top of the 1st after Jake Fields knocked in Ryan McLellan to make it 1-0. The lead was short lived, as DSU tagged starter Jeremy Holcomb for 2 runs in each of the first two innings.
After VSU’s two hits in the 1st inning, Cody McGill shut down the Blazers, only surrendering five hits over the remaining 8 innings.
