uga_shaq_jonesATHENS — Georgia is losing another football player.  This is the fourth in 12 days.

Tim Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Freshman defensive back Shaquille Jones was dismissed from Georgia’s football team due to disciplinary reasons.  This was announced by head coach Mark Richt Sunday night.

“We have certain expectations and standards that we require of all our players,” Richt said in a statement. “When those expectations and standards are not met, the opportunity to be a part of our program is sacrificed.”

Though Georgia did not provide a reason for Jones’ dismissal, Tucker reported that the Clarke County Jail booking report showed a Shaquille Jones (with the same year of birth as the Georgia player) was arrested Sunday afternoon on a misdemeanor charge of theft by shoplifting. He was released on $1,500 bond.

Other Georgia players lost include Shattle Fenteng, who requires shoulder surgery that is expected to sideline him for the season.  Sheldon Dawson left the team, reportedly over playing time.  Finally, Rico Johnson was medically disqualified.

Jones had only played in one game this season.
