Night Hawks Soccer Defeats SEU Fire in Overtime

THOMASVILLE — NAIA No. 2 Thomas University’s Men’s Soccer (7-0-2) (TSC 2-0) defeat Southeastern University (6-2-1) (TSC 1-1) 3-2 in an overtime battle.

TU took the early 1-nil lead over SEU as Sophomore Severin Abt sent home a goal from the top of the box. Thomas’s defense held strong throughout the first 67 minutes of play, holding the Fire scoreless.

Southeastern wouldn’t go down without be unheard as they scored a goal in the 67th minute, knotting the game at 1. SEU would then take the lead when they netted their second goal on the day, taking the 2-1 lead over Thomas. The Night Hawks wouldn’t back down from the fight as Junior Patrick Ramdial sent the game into overtime on the cross assist by Senior Diego Hurtado.

Sophomore Antoine Akoure locked in the victory for the Night Hawks as he drove home a header, assisted by Sophomore Donal Branagan that was served from a corner kick off the boot of Hurtado.

Coach Ricky Zambrano collected his 86th win, tying him with former Head Coach Vinny Gill for All-Time Winningest Soccer Coach at Thomas University.

“We knew we were up against a tough team today. We fell behind late in the game, but we were able to maintain our composure and give ourselves the chance we needed to come out on top. We must be better focused for 90 minutes. I am proud we were able to overcome a bad performance,” Head TU Men’s Soccer Coach, Ricky Zambrano commented. “We will continue to work hard and shift our focus to our next match.”

Thomas will be back in action Thursday, October 2nd, hosting Webber-International for another conference match-up at the Thomas University Soccer Complex at 2:00 P.M.
