Demasi, who served as one of the most reliable arms on the Blazer baseball pitching staff in 2014, was the 938th overall pick in the draft and was selected by the Cleveland Indians.
In VSU’s most recent season, the junior won seven games against just four losses in 12 starts while dealing three complete games and two shutouts. He averaged nearly one strikeout per inning on the year with 77 strikeouts in 80.2 innings pitched. His 2.79 ERA marked the lowest in the righty’s three-year career as a Blazer.
Throughout the course of his career at Valdosta State, Demasi established an ERA of 3.14 and picked up 11 wins in 17 starts. He held his opponents to a .226 batting average, struck out 131 batters, and allowed just 48 earned runs in 137.2 innings pitched.
Demasi is the fourth Blazer in the last five years to be drafted by a Major League organization, joining Brandon Graves and Matt Costello, who were selected in 2009, and Brandon Decker, who was selected in 2010.
