MIAMI SHORES, FL – Valdosta State shot a final round 295 finish ninth at the Buccaneer Invitational with a 37-over 889 at the par 71, 6,733 yard Normandy Shores Golf Club Tuesday.
Nationally top-ranked and host Barry won the event with a 21-under 831 after a six-under 278 in the final round while Johnson and Wales shot a final round 282 to finish second with a one-over 853. Nova Southeastern was third at 857 after a final round 285 and was followed by Saint Leo at 858 after a 290 Tuesday. Chico State shot a final round 286 to round out the top five with an 862.
Florida Tech was two shots behind Chico State after a final round 288 and Saint Edward’s had an 868 after a final round 292 while Wilmington was eighth at 885 after a 300 on Tesday. Montevallo stumbled to a final round 310 and was bested by the Blazers by a stroke to finish 10th. Eastern Florida State was two more strokes back after a 292 while Colorado-Colorado Springs shot a final round 298 for a three-round total of 895. Georgia Southwestern shot a 302 in the final round and was at 902 for the tournament while Tampa rounded out the field at 917 after a final round 305.
Alex Jones paced the Blazers as he shot a final round 71 to tie for 12th at 214 while John Fordham tied for 30th at 218 after a final round 76. Florian Schmiedel tallied a 74 Tuesday and tied for 60th at 230 while Michael Nutter was a stroke back and tied for 66th after a final round 77. Austin McNeil shot a final round 74 and tied for 69th at 234.
Valdosta State returns to action Monday, April 21 when it opens play in the Gulf South Conference Championship in Tunica, Miss.
