VSU Men’s Tennis Starts GSC Play With 7-2 Win Over UAH

VSU-Mens-Tennis VALDOSTA, GA – The VSU men’s tennis team finished off their third match in as many days with a 7-2 win over Gulf South Conference foe Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Courts.

The Blazers rolled from the outset with two out of three wins in doubles action as Tammo Haake and Sebastian Jasyk defeated Fredrik Graaner and Ian Wisener 8-0 at No. 2, before Gereon Heitmann teamed up with Niklas Herbring to cruise past Bruno Medeiros and Pablo Herrero with an 8-1 win at No. 3

At No. 1, Francisco Yim Kim and Mario Navarro Bayo fought hard but fell 9-8 to Jose Soto and Nestor Perez.

VSU dominated the singles slate with an additional five wins. After Yim Kim fell 6-1, 6-3 to Soto at No. 1, the Blazers kicked into high gear, starting with a 6-4, 6-2 win for Navarro Bayo at No. 2 over Graaner. Meanwhile, Joachim Schemm picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Perez at No. 3.

Heitmann held momentum for the Blazers, as he handily defeated Herrero at No. 4, and Hebring handled Medeiros with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.

Jasyk capped off the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Harrison Stone to push Valdosta State to a 6-2 record on the year and a 1-0 record in league play.

The next match for Valdosta State was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed on Sunday afternoon and will be rescheduled for a later date. Stay tuned to www.vstateblazers.com for updated information as it becomes available.
