VALDOSTA, GA – For the first time this season and the fifth time in her career, Blazer slugger Courtney Albritton has been selected as the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the GSC on Tuesday.
The honor for Valdosta State’s utility player comes in recognition of a week that included a .500 batting average on a 9-for-18 stretch over the course of five games played. During that same span, Albritton also drove in seven runs, scored nine times, and tacked on a double and a sacrifice fly.
Three of Albritton’s six home runs on the year came last week, and two of those home runs were leadoff blasts against the Shorter Hawks. Entering the third week of the season, Albritton leads the league in home runs (6), total bases (43), and runs scored (20). In addition the Blazer catcher is third in the conference in batting average (.444).
