A Colquitt County man finds himself in hot water after police say he drove his SUV into a ditch, then stole a forklift to try and get it out. George Mendez’s Nissan Pathifnder wound up in a ditch along Newton Road over the weekend.

Mendez told a responding deputy that he asked a nearby resident if he could use it. However, no one was at the nearby home when police went to corroborate his story.

Mendez was charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license, leaving the scene of an accident, no insurance, open container, seat belt violation, and failure to drive in a single lane.
