lottery ticketValdosta, GA- Three south Georgia couples have come forward to claim their share of a quarter-million dollar Mega Millions prize from the May 14 drawing. Albert and Helen Deberry of Alapaha; Albert and Earlene Williams of Ocilla; and Bobby Williams and Mary McLeod of Tifton, matched the first five winning numbers to win a $250,000 prize.

The couples claimed their share recently at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Tifton.

G & G Food Mart, 111 S. Irwin Ave. in Ocilla sold the winning ticket.

Winning numbers from the May 14 Mega Millions drawing were: 6-10-12-28-32 and the Mega Ball was 38.

Helen Deberry, 73, said the group are childhood friends who meet each week for dinner. While dining, each picked a number to play with hopes of winning the jackpot.

“We made a pact that whatever we won, we’d divide it among the six of us,” Deberry said.

Between the couples, plans include a new truck, home repairs and savings.

Tuesday’s jackpot is at an estimated $12 million to a single annuity winner.

It only takes $1 to play Mega Millions for a chance to win big. Players can multiply prizes with the Megaplier option for an additional $1 per play.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions will benefit education in the state of Georgia.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.3 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
