98 Wanted In Statewide Child Porn Sting

computer crime 2The GBI announced on Wednesday that they have issued 98 warrants for people suspected of distributing child pornography over the Internet. The 3-month-long investigation involved nearly four dozen state, federal, and local law enforcement agencies.

‘Operation Guarding Innocence’ was an effort of the GBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to respond to increasing numbers of children and teens using the Internet, an increase in the availability of child pornography, and an upswing in the number of predators trolling the Internet for victims.

GBI spokesman John Bankhead said this investigation is the largest of its kind to date in Georgia. Since its inception in 2002, the task force has made 976 arrests statewide.
