VALDOSTA — Valdosta Police report a suspect has been arrested in a drive-by shooting on Ponderosa Drive Sunday evening.
Police reports claim a man was shot in the torso, and bullets flew into an apartment where children were staying.
About 7:10, two men were standing outside an apartment building located in the 1300 block of Ponderosa Drive, when a car drove by the building and someone inside the vehicle began shooting.
The victim who was hit was taken to South Georgia Medical Center where he was treated and released for a non- life threatening wound. Other bullets entered one of the apartments occupied by a mother and her two children, ages 8 and 9.
No one else was injured in the apartment.
About the same time this shooting occurred, 911 received a call from a citizen about a vehicle driving recklessly in the same area. Officers were dispatched as the citizen was able to keep an eye on the vehicle.
There was a brief vehicle pursuit and the vehicle was stopped with the assistance of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department and the Georgia State Patrol. Evidence located in the vehicle connected the occupants of the vehicle to the shooting on Ponderosa Drive. The vehicle was also later reported to be stolen.
Three men, all Valdosta residents, were arrested on the scene, and face five counts of aggravated assault.
Rashawn Mays, 25, Demareay Doe, 22, and Raekwon Glover, 19. Glover also faces a charge of giving a false name, and felony violation of probation. Detectives are continuing their investigation into this incident.
