LAKELAND — Law enforcement officials are reporting a fatal car accident in Lanier County Thursday morning.

The accident involved two pickup trucks.  The crash happened around 7 o’clock Thursday morning on Highway 221 near the Lowndes County line.

Georgia State Patrol troopers state the driver of a white pickup truck heading north likely struck a deer and then lost control.  He then crossed into the opposite lane where it struck a black pickup truck sending both vehicles into a ditch.

The driver of the white pickup was ejected and died at the scene.  Paramedics rushed the other pickup’s driver to South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta for treatment of injuries.
